Sally Martin, 79, rural Kief, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at Trinity Hospital in Minot.

Due to COVID 19 precautions, a private funeral will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Drake followed by burial in the church cemetery.

Public visitation will be held Saturday from 3 P.M. to 5 P.M. at the Nelson Funeral Home in Drake.

Sally Jane Michalenko, daughter of Alex and Sophie (Mehrer) Michalenko, was born October 12, 1940 on the family farm near Kief where she was raised. She attended Balfour High School, graduating in 1958.

On November 6, 1959, Sally was united in marriage to Jonathan Martin in Drake where she worked for the local telephone office. In 1962 they moved to Rugby where Sally worked at Andrew’s Steakhouse. In 1972 they moved to the Martin family farm near Kief where they raised their family and began farming and ranching. Since Jonie’s death on February 19, 2004, Sally had remained on the farm and continued to assist her son David with the farming operation.

Sally was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Drake and truly enjoyed the church quilting days. She served as Strassburg Township assessor for a number of years and was a member of the David D. Nehrenberg American Legion Post #32 Auxiliary. She was an avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan.

She is survived by her children, David Martin of rural Kief and Donna Bender of Lakewood, CA; grandson, Brady (Elise) Harmon; great-granchildren, Vayda and Casyn Harmon; sister, Adeline Reis of Bismarck; brothers, Marvin (Audrey) Michalenko of Rugby and Jerry Michalenko of Green Valley, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sally was preceded in death by her husband, Jonathan; her parents; and her great-grandson Pryor.
