Shirley Jane Thompson, 83, of St. George, passed away on June 30, 2020 at her home from a short illness.
She left this world on a summer breeze surrounded by her family and loved ones.
A private service will be held.
Shirley was born March 3, 1937, in Sanderson, Florida and was the daughter of the late Ervin and Eva Davis also preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Orival “Buck” Thompson.
She is survived by her children:
Orival and wife Diane Thompson of St. George,
Kyle Mark “Bubba” and wife Gina Thompson of St. George,
Rhonda Lea and husband Mike Chism of Fernandina, Florida,
Sonya Dee and husband Al Ross of Alma, Ga;
grandchildren:
Kylee Marie Morgan & Russell,
Marcus Thompson,
Kody Thompson & Karley,
Katie Donley,
Kami Brown and Terence
April Lea Burnsed & Clay,
Adam Chism & Marcy,
Abby Ross, and Austin Ross;

Shirley was blessed with 11 great grandchildren and 2 great great grands.
Shirley was an outgoing ball of energy and personality and a guiding bright light for her family. She was a member of New Life Baptist Church in St. George and was a hard worker and a dedicated wife and mother to her 4 children. After working for the Northeast Florida State Hospital for 17 years, she pursued her passionate entrepreneurial spirit and opened Shirley’s Café in 1976 where she made hundreds of friends as she served thousands of home cooked meals that her loyal patrons drove miles to visit and enjoy. In addition to hard work, Shirley enjoyed a slow “Tennessee Waltz” to her favorite blue grass music, watching NASCAR, and cheering on her Georgia Bulldogs.
Shirley was well respected and well known for her candid speech and free spirit. She was fiercely loyal to her family and set the example for all her family to follow with not only her words but with her actions. Shirley loved her home on the farm and enjoyed keeping a watchful eye over her family as they came and went on Buck Shot Lane. Shirley was the Grand Matron of the Thompson Family and she leaves a legacy of devotion, hard work, loyalty, and love that will carry through her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren for generations to come.
