Mark W. “Hobie” Mathis, 65, of Galesburg, passed from this life on Sunday, July 5, 2020, at home.

He was born November 8, 1954, in San Angelo, Texas, the son of Harrell C. and Patsy F. (Stevens) Mathis. He married Crystal A. Whitsell on February 17, 1979, in Alpha.

He is survived by his wife of over 41 years, Crystal; a daughter, Jessica B. Mathis of Galesburg; a granddaughter, Alexandria B. Roden; two nieces, Tori Hinton and Sarah Mathis-Luensmann; a nephew, Jack Unsworth; two great nephews; and a great niece. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Mark was a video game technician for 32 years, working for Knott Music. He graduated from Alexis High School in 1972. Hobie enjoyed music, playing keyboards with Joe Padilla and Company and also singing karaoke. His signature song was “What a Wonderful World”. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles.

Mark served in the United States Air Force as a sergeant for two years.

Cremation will be accorded. The family will plan a celebration of life for a later date when we can once again gather safely. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
