Ann Elizabeth (Thompson) Bergner, died on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, in Flagstaff after a hard-fought battle with cancer. She was 41 years old.

Mrs. Bergner was born on Dec. 1, 1959, in Santa Monica, Calif. She then moved to Arizona in 1970 with her family and settled in Phoenix where she attended elementary and high school. Mrs. Bergner graduated from Northern Arizona University in 1984.

In January 1989, she married Michael J. Bergner and the family moved to Page in April of 1991 where their son, Austin Michael, was born.

Mrs. Bergner was an active 4-H member and most recently, she led the Page Horse Project for nine years and also the Arts and Crafts Club.

She was an accomplished horsewoman, training and successfully showing her Pinto horses in many breed and open horse shows. She was also honored to be the Paint Horse Queen representing Arizona at the National Paint Horse Show in Oklahoma City, Okla. There was no animal or creature, large or small, that Mrs. Bergner wasn't interested in learning about, working with, or caring for.

In addition, she was a businesswomen in Page and also had been a teacher for Page public schools. She also taught biology at the Page Campus of Coconino Community College.

In addition to her son and husband, Mrs. Bergner is survived by her mother, Beatrice Thompson of Page; brothers Alan and Thomas Laurie of Phoenix and Jon Paulene of Phoenix; and two nephews.

Mrs. Bergner was a bright, enthusiastic and energetic person. She was dearly loved and will be sorely missed by all.

Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at the United Community Methodist Church in Page. Graveside services will be at the Page Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Avon 3-Day Breast Cancer Fund or to the Ann Bergner 4-H Memorial Scholarship Fund. Scholarship donations should be directed to Community First National Bank in Page.
