A service will be held at Legacy Funeral Homes Kehl's Chapel located at 11621 Old Seward Hwy, Anchorage on July 6th at 12:00 pm and a burial to take place at Angelus Memorial Park at 1:00 pm. Due to Covid19 concerns, the short service will be streamed live, call Kehl's for the information.
Don was born February 18, 1932 in Caldwell Idaho to Henry and Josephine Phillips.
He married the love of his life on May 31, 1953 and they were married for 61 years.
He and his family came to Alaska in the spring of 1963 where he worked as an ironworker all over the state for many years until he retired as a member of the Ironworkers Union.
He enjoyed Alaska life going snowmobiling, camping, and fishing. He also enjoyed square dancing and taking his wife out to eat. He loved attending the large family reunions held in different places every other year. In retirement he loved to tinker in his shop on snow machines, four wheelers and his Argo. He also loved spending time at his Kenai cabin, and taking his wife out to eat!
Don was a veteran, he served in the army. He was also a member of the Royal Order of the Moose.
He was known for his sense of humor, generosity, karaoke with grandkids, playing his harmonicas, and loved being with family.
He is survived by his daughter and daughter-in-law, two brothers, and two sisters, seven grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.
