Mr. Bailey was born April 15, 1932 in Yancey County to the late I.B. Bailey and Alma Roland Bailey. Harold was raised in Black Mountain and resided there until he joined the US Air Force. Harold retired from the US Air Force after 21 years of service and later retired from the US Postal Service with 20 years of service.
After retiring, he and his wife, Jean lived in Elgin, SC for 24 years.
Harold is survived by his wife of 66 years, Corina Jean Bailey; son, Michael Berry of Asheville, NC; daughters, Linda Zellmer (Dale) of Brookfield, WI and Donna Robinson (Allen) of Franklin, NC. He was the proud "Papa" of 3 grandchildren, Terri Zellmer, Matthew Robinson and Karen Schooley and 2 great grandchildren, Bailey and Aiden; brother, Dwight Bailey of Black Mountain; sister, Katherine Sneed of Black Mountain and Bea Whisnant of Marion, NC. And of course, his four-legged baby, Lily.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, July 10, 2020 at 1:00pm in the chapel of Harwood Home for Funerals with Rev. James Lamb officiating. Burial will be in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
