James Nelsen came to America in 1882 and lived on a farm near Harlan, Iowa two years. He then moved to South Dakota on a homestead and lived there five years. He than moved to Shelby County, Iowa where he was married Miss Mary Larsen March 28, 1888. Mr. and Mrs. Larsen came to Newell in 1891 where Mr. Nelsen resided until his death. To them seven children were born. One a twin daughter preceded her father to the great beyond. The other six are Fred M. Nelsen of Dayton, Iowa, Laura Couch, Hart F., Arthur J., Noah I. and Axel C., all of Newell.
