Duane "Dirk" H. Dirksen, 80, died Monday, October 13, 2003 of heart failure at home. Services will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday, October 16 at Westover Funeral Home, with burial at McDivitt Grove Cemetery.
Duane was born in Ames and lived in Des Moines for the past 56 years. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Army Aircorp and retired as a supervisor at John Deere. Dirk was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his wife, Bette of Urbandale and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oley and Lois Dirksen and a sister, Ann Dirksen Petersen.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Urbandale Caring Corp, c/o Urbandale City Hall.
