OLD TIMER DIES AFTER RESIDING YEARS IN WEST

After a long illness, Mrs. Prudence Jane Lackey, wife of William Lackey, state cattle tick and sheep scab inspector, died Friday morning at on o'clock at her home at 308 Koberlin street. The body was prepapred for burial by the Charles A. Robison Undertaking Company and was taken to Sherwood, the former home, Friday afternoon. The funeral party left in automobiles at two o'clock.

Interment was to be made in the Sherwood cemetery after a service conducted by the Rev. G. T. Gibbons at the Methodist church. Rev. S. C. Dunn, Methodist minister from Sonora, was to conduct the song service.

BORN IN KARNES COUNTY

Mrs Lackey was fifty-seven years old on September 22. She was born in 1861 at Helena, Karnes county and spent her girlhood days there and at Del Rio. Her maiden name was Prudence Jane Strickland. The family moved to Irion county in 1873, and five or six years later Miss Strickland was married to William Lackey. Of the union eleven children were born. Two daughters and one son died, and fivie sons and three daughters survive.

Their children are J. M. Lackey of Barnhart, John F. Lackey of Alto, N. M., Jerome Lackey of Sheffield, Roy Lackey of San Angelo, Edgar Lackey of Sherwood, Miss Helen Lackey of San Angelo, Mrs. Ray Hays of Alpine and Mrs. Ray Johnston of this city. All were here at the time of their mother's death with the exception of John F. Lackey.

Two brothers, John and Louis Strickland, live at El Paso and Sacramento, Cal., respectively, and Mrs. Emily Reagan, a sister and Mrs. Nancy Strickland, mother of Mrs. Lackey, reside in Bandera, Texas. Another sister, Mrs. C. A. Ricketson of Del Rio was here when Mrs. Lackey died.

MOVED HERE 6 MONTHS AGO

The family moved to San Angelo about six months ago after Mrs. Lackey underwent an operation at a local sanitarium in August, 1918. Little improvement was shown in her condition and three weeks ago she became critically ill. Relatives were then summoned. On Thursday, less than twelve hours before she died, Mrs. Lackey sang an old hymn that had been a favorite of hers since childhood and was conscious until nine o'clock Thursday night, recognizing and conversing with those who gathered about her bedside. She was cheerful until the last, as she had been throughout her long illnes..

John Lackey, a brother-in-law of the deceased, was Tom Green county's first county clerk, it was recalled Friday. He died a number of years ago.
