Bill was a graduate of the University of Louisville Medical School and served his residency at the University of Chicago. He was a Dermatologist in private practice in downtown Louisville and also had been Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the U of L School of Medicine. He was a member and president of both the Louisville Society of Medicine and the Transylvania Medical Society. He was a member of the Greater Louisville Medical Society, Kentucky Medical Society and the American Medical Association. He was a past member of the Pendennis Club and Big Springs Country Club.
He is preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Peggy Byerly Gillespie; parents, William and Mabel Gillespie and his sister, Betty Ann Gillespie.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Joan Gillespie of Louisville and Ann Gillespie Huso (Peter) of Los Angeles, CA and a son Robert Gillespie (Kristan) of Gallatin, TN and six grandchildren. He was a member of St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church. Bill's memorial service will be held at 11am on Friday, July 10, 2020 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. His body was donated to the U of L School of Medicine and any memorial gifts may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Louisville.
