Barry Lewis Goodwin, 66, of Hendersonville, NC, died Monday July 10th at his home of complications due to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

Barry, the youngest of the late Davis and Louise DeMaranville Goodwin’s six children, was born in Brockton, MA. After a brief, chagrined stint as a dancer in childhood and a term in the National Guard, he graduated from Boston College and was district manager for several restaurant chains before retiring. His life’s journey left many happy people in its wake. From Cape Cod to Columbia, SC, from Charlotte to the North Carolina mountains, Barry never met a stranger. Even in sickness, his zest for life, penchant for song, and contagious sense of humor carved a monument to his strength; his faith continues to inspire us. His commitment to the church as a lay speaker or a choir member, his devotion as a husband, father, and grandfather, and his zeal as a sports fan all reflect his belief in the axiom ‘don’t cry because it’s over- smile because it happened.’

Barry is survived by his wife Jane B. Goodwin; four children Susan Russo,
Michelle Purcell, Kent Goodwin, and Lisa Fontes; three step-children Jennifer
McDonald, Scott Wellington, and Amy Young; sixteen grandchildren; one sister Priscilla
Bailey; and special sisters- and brothers-in-law Ruth and Spurgeon Shelley and Norma
and Jim Andrews.

A memorial service will be held at 4pm on Saturday July 22nd, 2006 at Rehoboth United Methodist Church 6911 Two Notch Road, Columbia, SC 29223. Rev. Deborah Quilling will officiate.
