Gregory "Greg" Paul Hansen, of Madison Lake, MN. age 67, passed away on Thursday Morning June 25, 2020 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN.
Greg was born September 11, 1952 to Woodrow "Woody" and Louise (Marquardt) Hansen. He graduate from Mankato West High School. In 1971 he married Patricia Ann Larson... Daughter of Henry {Hank} and Ann Larson. They had 2 children...Tami and Troy but divorced after 37 years. In 1978 Greg and Pat had bought the business of Hansen Sanitation from Greg's father and it became a long time family business. Pat left the business after 33 years of running the office and Tami took over. Troy started when he was 16 and could do anything the business needed to be done.
Greg loved riding ATV, Snowmobile, Fishing, Ice Fishing and Pheasant Hunting with family, friends and relatives. But Greg's passion was Sprint Cars and building engines for them. And he was great at it. Greg built engines and crewed up with the Allen Brothers. Bruce and Dick.
When Troy was 10 Greg started building go-kart engines and Troy began to race. Greg built and helped out his niece Misti and nephew Dusti Swichtenberg, who began to race karts also. It was a family and relative thing...When Troy was 16 and quit go-karting...Greg bought a Sprint car and went back to his real passion. Greg got different drivers to drive the Sprint Car in those years. First it was Bruce Allen, then Dick Allen and then Ron Smith. After many years Greg decided to sell the car and just help out with Brett Gildner.
Greg spent a lot of time with his first two grandchildren...Beth and Bailey and they loved going to all the races with him. Greg also loved taking them up to Duluth and South Dakota to site see. By the time his 3rd. grandchild Grace came along, racing was done!
Greg and Troy had expanded their business, adding a Recycling Center which keep them very busy!
Greg spent time with his family and socializing with his many friends in and around his community. He loved to watch his granddaughters grow up and going to Grace's dance competitions.
Greg later got cancer, had surgery, was put on oxygen until the end of his life. He did not want a funeral. He wanted to be cremated and his remains scattered at a place of his choosing.
