Thomas Wathen Jr. died April 23, in Grass Valley. He was 90.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on April 28 at Sierra Presbyterian Church in Nevada City.

Mr. Wathen was born to Thomas Neal Wathen and Blanche Rogers Wathen on Jan. 8, 1920. He earned a bachelor's associate degree from the University of Texas.

He married on Aug. 28, 1943 in Phoenix, Ariz.

Mr. Wathen was a captain of the 181st Field Artillery Battalion "Wild Cats" during World War II. He was also the vice president of human resources for TransAmerica Financial Corp.

He enjoyed cowboy poetry, woodcarving, cartooning, painting, birdwatching and sketching.

Mr. Wathen is survived by his wife; daughters; son; sister of Round Mountain, Texas; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
