Kay moved to Boulder City, Nevada, two years ago from southern Orange County, California, where she had lived most of her adult life, primarily in Newport Beach and Laguna Niguel. Born August 13, 1920, in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, the youngest of five children, Kay grew up on a country farm that remained in the family for three generations.
She married Southern Californian Ed Armstrong in 1942 and they returned to his family's hometown of Laguna Beach while he served as an officer in the Navy during the war. When she was in her 70s, after nearly 30 years of service, she reluctantly retired from the County of Orange as Executive Secretary to the Public Administrator/Public Guardian.
She is survived by daughters Katherine "Connie" Shives of Sammamish, Washington, and Susan (Doug) Thomas of Boulder City, Nevada; son David Armstrong (Roy Blakey) of Aliso Viejo, California; as well as four grandchildren (in Washington, Texas and California), ten great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her former husband, three brothers and one sister, and was the last of her generation in her family.
Always stylish and youthful, engaged, genuine, spirited and giving, she leaves a legacy of joy, laughter, faith and wonder. A Memorial Service/Celebration of Life, will be held on Friday, February 19, 2016, at 11:00 AM at South Shores Church, 32712 Crown Valley Pkwy., Dana Point, California, with reception following at the church.
