Larry Dale Abernathy, 69, of Covington, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2020 at his home. He was born on November 24, 1950 in Crawfordsville, IN, the son of Dale Leon and Judith Ann (Ocheltree) Abernathy. He was united in marriage to Nancy Jordan on May 7, 1971.

He will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Nancy; son Josh Abernathy of Covington; brothers, Kevin (Jill) Abernathy of Covington and Eric (Janelle) Abernathy of Covington; sisters, Brenda (Bruce) Starkey of Terre Haute, Sue (Richard Pruitt) Tuggle of Covington, Elizabeth Anderson of Florida, and Kris Cates of Covington; sister in laws, Joan (Wayne) Weaver of Valparaiso, IN, Linda (Eldon) Morehouse of Covington and Susan (Joe) Collison of Veedersburg; several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his loving granddaughter, Savanah Abernathy. Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Judith; mother and father in law, Hugh and Avon Jordan.

Larry was a proud to serve his country in the United States Army being stationed in Germany. After his time in the service he worked for the VA Illiana Health Care System for 30 years. He later went to work for Krupp Gerlach Co. in the machining division. Larry was a member of the Fountain 60 Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed gardening, making knifes, gunsmithing, cheering on the Dallas Cowboys and most of all spending time with his granddaughter.

A Celebration of Larry's life will be held at 7:00pm (EST) on Thursday, July 9, 2020, with Masonic Rites at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Covington, Indiana 420 3rd St. Covington, Indiana 47932. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the funeral home prior to the service. per Larry's wishes he will be cremated and buried at Coal Creek Cemetery.
