Donna Jean “Lee” Kelly died May 14, 2020 at her home, Sacramento, CA. Donna was born March 12, 1942 in Indianapolis, Indiana to William Twyman and Dorothy Mae “Cabbell” Lee.
Donna attended Shortridge High School Indianapolis, Indiana and graduated in1960; she was a member of the Jr. Red Cross Club, the Fine Arts Agent and FBLA.

Donna moved to Sacramento to live with her favorite aunt, Novelyn “Lee” Sims-Cummings. Later she moved to the Bay area to work. For a few years she lived and worked in New York then moved to San Diego, CA.
Donna moved to San Diego, CA in 1972 and worked for the University of California, San Diego from 1972-2000; working first as a secretary and later became the assistant to the Vice-Chancellor of students’ affairs for UCSD.

It was in 1984 at an Inroads social club Juneteenth observation at Clays BBQ in La Jolla, CA that Donna met her husband, James E. Kelly. They were married in 1988. They were active members of the Bayview Baptist Church of San Diego, CA. After retirement, Donna and James (Aka Jim) moved to Sacramento in 2001.
After moving to Sacramento, Donna worked part-time for the Sacramento Observer newspaper and Sacramento State College. She was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. Donna continued to be active in retirement; she joined a quilting group, was a member of a lady’s card group, and she resumed her love of learning and playing the piano. She also taught reading through the Sacramento County Library Adult Literacy Program.

Donna and Jim loved to travel; they got the “cruise bug” and took many cruises to different parts of the world. She also traveled with her sister and some of her friends.

Donna was a very loving and giving person. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, James E. Kelly, step son James E. Kelly II (Naipua) and 4 step grandchildren, her sister Beverly L. Rice (Frank), sister-in-law Rosemary “Williams” Lee (William Lee Jr), Nieces; Cheryl “Brown” Adair, Sharon “Brown” Black, Karen “Lee” Brown, Carol Lee, Kathy “Lee” Uzzell and Adrian “Lee” Jenkins and a host of other relatives. She will be deeply missed by her god-children, Jessica and David Townsend, her longtime friend Annie Townsend, and many others.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father, William T. Lee & Dorothy M. Lee, and her brother William T. Lee Jr.

A private celebration of life for Donna will be held on a later date. Interment will be at Odd Fellows Lawn Cemetery and Mausoleum, Sacramento, CA.
