Laurentius Adrianus Jozef Claassen was born on 27 January 1937 in 's-Gravenmoer.
Claassen studied theology and philosophy.
Claassen was a member of the Order of the Discalced Carmelites. He used the name Godfried.
Godfried Claassen was ordained priest on 11 April 1964. Afterwards, he spent a year in Rome. When he returned to the Netherlands, he started working for the Diepgangcentrum in Groenendijk in Hazerswoude-Rijndijk. Gradually, he became more and more active for the parish H. Bernardus there.
In 1969, the parish H. Bernardus fused with the parish H. Michaël in Hazerswoude-Rijndijk. Together they formed the parish H.H. Michaël en Bernardus.
In 1974, Pater Godfried Claassen became interested in art. He started painting and sculpting and had a few exhibitions where his art was displayed.
In 1984, Pater Godfried Claassen made a pilgrimage from the Sint-Jacobskapel in Galder to Santiago de Compostella. He had to walk around 2500 kilometers on foot. He completed the pilgrimage in 188 days.
In 2002, Pater Godfried Claassen retired. He died almost 10 years later on 1 February 2012 and was buried at the Algemene Begraafplaats in Hazerswoude-Dorp.
