Peggy's devotion to her family began at an early age and continued into her adulthood. She was a devoted wife and mother. She was also an active member of her community both in Ohio and in Charlotte and served on the board of both the Oberlin Public Library and Planned Parenthood. Peggy was also a volunteer for Hospice at Charlotte for eight years. She was an avid athlete with a special love for tennis.
Peggy is survived by her father, Henry RB Irish; husband, Gregory A. Close; her daughter, Margaret Austin; her son, Oliver HI Austin; niece, Kathryn V. Harris; nephew, Drayton Virkler; stepsons, Gary and Dennis Close; grandson, Benton Austin; great nephews, Crosby and Parker Harris; and great niece, Eleanor Virkler. She was predeceased by her mother, Eleanor Timms Irish, sister, Susan Irish Virkler and brother, William Timms Irish.
