"JOHN GUY BURCHETT
John Guy Burchett died suddenly at his home, Middlesboro Tuesday at 10 a.m. He was 59 years old. He was born in Glenmary, Tenn., and was the son of the late William Cooper and Mary Todd Burchett.

Mr. Burchett and Miss Dora Bell Lively were united in marriage 38 years ago. He served in World War I with the U.S. Army and in World War II with the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy he was in three major battles in the South Pacific and also in World War II were his three sons, Capt. George P. Burchett, active in battle engagements in the European Theater of War and the Korean Conflict; M-Sgt. Nobel F. Burchett, active battle engagements in the European Theatre of War and the Korean Conflict, and S-Sgt Jack Burchett, active service in the Korean Conflict.

After his discharge from the Army following World War I, Mr. Burchett was employed with the Premier Coal Company and was president of the Premier Local Union of the UMWA for a number of years. After his discharge from the Navy, following World War II, he returned to work for the Premier Coal Company and worked there until his retirement a few years ago. He moved to Middlesboro from Harlan in 1930.

He was a member of the Baptist Church, UMWA Local Union 8369 and the American Legion Dewey Guy Post number 14 of Middlesboro.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Dora Burchett, Middlesboro; sons, S-Sgt Jack Burchett, USAF, Langley Field, Va., M-Sgt Noble E. Burchett, USA, Providence, R.I., Captain George P. Burchett, USA, Pentagon, Washington, D.C.; brother, Major Charles E. Burchett, USA, retired, San Francisco, Cal., Fritz Burchett, Knoxville; sisters, Mrs. Maggie Winchester, Pruden, Mrs. Eva Webb, Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Hattie Morris, Oakdale, Tenn., Mrs. Anne Inman, Wartburg, Tenn., Mrs. Thelma Barnes, Knoxville, Tenn.; four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 3 p.m. at the Cawood Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Fernde Robinson of Oak Ridge officiating. Burial will be in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens."
