According to family history, Lillie was buried at what is now Long Memorial United Methodist Church. Church history states that the cemetery was on the south and east sides of the original wooden church. It also says that in preparation for the construction of the second church building the graves were moved to the then-new Burchwood Cemetery.

Barnett.—Died on Monday afternoon, Dec. 21, 1891, Mrs. Lillie Griffith Barnett, of Roxboro, in the 26th year of her age. Sister Barnett was the daughter of Rev. J. R. Griffith, now of the Va. Conference, and formerly well known in the N. C. Conference. She was educated at Williamston Female College, was converted in 1879, at Warrenton, under the ministry of Rev. J. W. Shackford, of the Va. Conference. In 1887, she was married to Samuel Barnett, Esq. of Roxboro, who with two small children, mourns her death.

Sister Barnett, before her marriage, was a very successful teacher. Her mental attainments were of the highest order. Strong and attractive as was her mind, it can be truthfully said that her heart was more so. The radiance of her Christian life was seen wherever she went. She was a great believer in experimental religion, and what is better, she manifested her belief by a practice of the same. She was a tender, loving wife and mother, and she will be much messed in family and church.

Sister Barnett’s death was a very triumphant one. As she lived, so she died, trusting in the merits of her Redeemer’s blood. In reply to a question addressed her by the writer only a few hours before her death she said that she had not a single fear, but could trust herself in the hands of that Savior whom she had trusted so long.

May the Lord be tender to the sorrowing husband, children and other relations.
