Shirley E. McDonald, 102, passed away March 6, 2020 in Largo, Florida. Shirley was born March 4, 1918, to Eli Eddie Dougherty and Lucy Glen McGuire in Plainville, Indiana.
She lived most of her adult life in Detroit, Michigan. She worked for Briggs Manufacturing during World War II before working for the Wayne County court system until she retired in 1980. After retiring she moved to Rochester, New York, to be close to her son. She remained active in her retirement years with painting classes, bowling, volunteering for People to People Ministries and helping with the Trinity United Church of Christ breakfast program in Wooster, Ohio. She loved to bake, sew, knit and crochet. She always had a flower garden and her hybrid tea roses were especially beautiful. She canned fruits and made jams. Homemade Christmas and Easter chocolate candy were crowd favorites. She loved having large family dinners and get togethers. She is predeceased by her ex-husband, Joseph Beaman; husband John "Jack" McDonald; brother Clarence Dougherty; sister Marguerite Perkins; stepdaughter Audrey Rood; stepsons-in-law Donald Ward and Joe Dowd; her son, Richard Wayne (Beaman) McDonald; and stepgranddaughter Donna Cornatzer. She leaves behind her stepdaughters, Elizabeth Ward of Burlington, North Carolina, and Jackie Dowd of Bay City, Michigan; her grandchildren, Cynthia (John) Uher, Bonnie (Jerry) Warner, Stuart (Marcey) McDonald, Kerri McDonald (Don Goldstein), Scott (Mary) McDonald; stepgrandchildren Cathy (Howard) Denny, Patty Mitchell, Raymond Ward, Joe Dowd, Kathy Wiltse, Michelle LeBlanc, Linda McNairn and Juliana Aday. Many great-grandchildren, including Benjamin Uher, Jake (Emily) Warner and Sam Warner; and great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews in Indiana and Ohio who were near and dear to her heart.
