John H. Pike, 89, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at his home in Effingham.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 4, 2020 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. A private funeral service will follow with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery in Effingham with military rites.

Memorial donations may be given to Sacred Heart School, HSHS St. Anthony Hospice or to the donor’s choice.

John was born February 14, 1931 in Effingham, the son of John and Lidwina (Stumborg) Pike. He married Marie Pals on October 12, 1957 and she preceded him in death in 2012. John served with the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. He farmed and worked for Zimmerman Home Improvement in Effingham for 23 years. John was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham, the Effingham American Legion and the Effingham Knights of Columbus.

John is survived by his son, Kenneth (Debbie) Pike; son-in-law, John Root; daughter-in-law, Grace Pike and friend, Helen Hadfield, all of Effingham. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Linda Root and son, Robert W. “Bob” Pike; sister and brother-in-law, Mardell and Otto Goldstein.
