US Congressman. He was admitted to the bar in 1850 and was City Attorney of Rockford, Illinois in 1852. He was a member of the State House of Representatives in 1856 and 1857. In 1877, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-fifth Congress, serving until 1879. He declined to be a candidate for re-election and resumed the practice of law until his death.
