James Lee Darnell, 97, of Williamsville, MO passed away Tuesday, June 30th, 2020 in the comfort of his son's home.

James was born October 23, 1922 to Arthur and Nettie Darnell in Wappapello, Missouri. He married Mildred Louise Arnold on April 8, 1951.

James was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. He served as a member of the United States Army. During World War II he landed in Normandy with some of the first troops and continued across Europe. He went on to become a lineman for Southwest Bell and later a farmer. He was a hard worker who enjoyed tinkering with lawn mowers and farm equipment in his spare time.

James is survived by son, Jeff Darnell (Mary) of Williamsville, MO; two grandsons, Matt Darnell of Jonesboro, AR and Douglas Darnell (Shaina) of Farmington, MO; great-granddaughter, Adaline Darnell of Farmington; and a sister, Helen Crawford of Poplar Bluff.

James was preceded by his wife; parents; and two brothers, Howard Darnell and Cecil Darnell.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 10:00 am Friday, July 3rd, 2020 at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Poplar Bluff with officiating by Reverend Robert Edwards.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The American Heart Association or The National Kidney Foundation.
