He was born October 16, 1943 in Norwalk to Franklin and Evelyn (Kohler) Emerson, who both preceded him in death. On April 6, 1966, he married Yoshiko Nagamatsu who preceded him in death on June 13, 2009.
Joe is survived by two daughters, Angela (Kelsey) Harding of Winfield, West Virginia, and Erika (David) Illig of Delphos; a daughter-in-law, Susan Emerson of Curtice; three sisters, Mary Lou Mann of Hillman, Michigan, Lynne Nagy of Gibsonburg, and Sue Evans of Toledo; and four grandchildren, Jenna Illig, Jacob Emerson, Kristen Illig, and Olivia Emerson.
He was also preceded in death by a son Michael Emerson; two brothers-in-law, Robert Mann, and James Nagy.
Joe proudly served 6 years in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He met his lovely wife while stationed in Tokyo, Japan. Joe was retired with over 35 years of service from the BP Toledo Refinery. He enjoyed watching sports particularly the Cleveland Indians, the Ohio State Buckeyes, and any sport his grandchildren played.
