Ruth Helen Mikeal Harrison, age 99, of Lenoir, was called home on Monday, June 29, 2020 while at Trinity Village of Hickory.

She was born in Caldwell County on May 12, 1921 to the late Melton and Myra Jane Laney Mikeal.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Claude L. Harrison; one son, Danny Harrison; two brothers, Zeb Mikeal and Wayne Mikeal; a sister, Edna Dyson; two daughters-in-law, Reba Harrison and Ruth Harrison; and one granddaughter, Rena Harrison.

Mrs. "Granny" Harrison lived a life of dedication and service to others. She was a devoted wife, a dedicated mother and a loving grandmother. She joined Collier's United Methodist Church in 1952, dearly loved her church and was a very active and devoted member. Mrs. Harrison prepared Communion each time, including Christmas Eve, for over 30 years. She was also a caring neighbor and always helped in times of need. Having a servant's heart, helping others just came natural to her. During the days of home births, she assisted doctors in several births and unfortunately some deaths. She was there to help celebrate and to help console in their time of need.

Mrs. Harrison also had over 4,000 documented hours in volunteer service work. For years, she delivered meals to the home-bound, not just delivering meals, but spending time with and caring for them. Later, when her knees were too bad for her to walk in and out of homes, she volunteered at Caldwell Memorial Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit.

She was such a positive, inspiring woman. She always had a smile on her face and a gleam in her eyes. Everyone who met her was charmed by this amazing woman. Her family and friends were all so blessed to have her in their lives.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, private graveside services to celebrate the life of Ruth Harrison will be held at Collier's United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Adam Love, and Rev. Joe Parker.
