The lieutenant appears to be a casualty of World War II. His memorial is on the same stone as his mother and maternal grandparents.
This additional information was received from FAG contributor: jimpetty (#47310119): Winthrop Warren Mellen was lost at sea after his ship was torpedoed, so this (Milltown Cemetery stone) is probably a cenotaph. His name is also on a memorial in North Africa (FAG #56248997).
