Collins Knapp Orton was the first [Orton] to come to California. He drove some horses and pulled a wagon. He also invented a wagon wheel that had removable and replaceable wheel. About that time Cars came into being and the invention became anachronistic. the machine works invented the Orton Planer used for woodworking. It was an endless bed planer. They were sold all over the World. After world War II they made some adaptations and the planer was used for Aluminum planing that was used in airplane bodies. After that there were no innovation so that eventually the machine works went out of business.
