Mark and his identical twin Michael were born on November 12th, 1962 to Carrie Smith-Lipscomb. Carrie, their biological mother passed away when the twins were only five years old. After the passing of their mother, their aunt, Alice Smith became mother to Mark and his siblings.

Mark was baptized as an infant in the Catholic Church. However, he attended many churches throughout his lifetime.

Mark was a very outgoing person and made many friends starting from first grade. Mark grew up in the Hyde Park neighborhood where he attended Shoesmith Elementary School, Louis Wirth Middle School and Kenwood High School.

He enjoyed preparing food and worked in the food industry for many years. He began his career with Spirit of Chicago as a 'Maitre D' and for years was a chef at Chateau Bu-Sch'e and was an employee there until the time of his death, as well as working at Sunrise Senior Living.

He leaves to mourn his death sons, Marcus Hubbard, Joshua Moore, Mark Lipscomb Jr., Rendez Lipscomb, and Jacque Lipscomb (deceased), and his only daughter, Dr. Kyesha A. Lipscomb; his mother Alice Smith; his siblings, Edgar Lipscomb III, Derald Lipscomb (Laura), Cassandra Shelton (Darryl), and Michael Lipscomb (Coehama). The family that Mark grew up with consisted of his aunt, Mary Sayles; cousins, Denise Smith, Reginald Sayles and Elaine Sayles; nine grandchildren, six nieces and nephews; and a host of close cousins, relatives and friends.

Note by Kool Graves: I met Mark once in Chicago at Aunt Alice's home and at Kyesha' s graduation at Hampton University. From those two experiences Mark made me feel like I had known him all my life. His mannerism was quiet but talkative, smooth, and very kind. He took the time to get to know me and share parts of his life. I felt Mark was the type of person I could always enjoy and knew that he cared enough to look out for me.

Mark was to me the kind of person this world needs most. I have learned that God knows best and it is not my position to ask why, to be selfish, or to be greedy. I did not create this world - God did, so I trust Him and will always maintain faith in Him.
