Kline and Clara Wiese Burial was in Crystal cemetery beside her husband who passed away in 1934.
Mrs. Caroline Claussen, nee Wiese was born in Davenport, Iowa on December 25, 1864, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claus Wiese. As a child she came with her parents to a farm near the site of the future town of Gladbrook. She received her elementary education in the rural school near her home and in 1884 became the bride of Hans Claussen. They made their home on a farm in north Crystal township until their retirement in 1920. They moved to Gladbrook, where they built a new home. Ten children were born to them. The golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Claussen in April 1934 was one of the pleasant events of her life.
As a child Mrs. Claussen was baptized in the Lutheran faith. While not active in any church, she was a faithful reader of the Bible and a constant listener to spiritual programs over the air. Her principal interests were her family, home and her garden. She frequently called on the sick and shut-ins, always taking a gift of flowers. Mrs. Claussen was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was interested in civic affairs.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Matilda McGowan and Mrs. Amelia Staker of Traer; Mrs. Luella Rohweder of Green Mountain; Velma Claussen of Marshalltown; and Hilda Claussen of Gladbrook; and three sons, Edward of Gladbrook; Fred of Reinbeck; and John of Traer. She also leaves a brother, Henry Wiese of Gladbrook, fifteen grandchildren and eight grandchildren. Two daughters, Mrs. Catherine Ehrig and Lydia, preceded her in death.
