Private First Class Garland D. Brown, age 96 of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2020. He was born April 18, 1924 in Carrollton, Georgia, the son of the late Mr. David Turon Brown and the late Mrs. Willie Ione Herrin. Mr. Brown proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Garland and Rebecca were enthusiastic travelers and they traveled to all 50 states together. He loved to preach and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and favored old cars.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Jo Brown, brother Darrell Brown, sisters Chesteen Cochran and Sybil Smith.
Mr. Brown is survived by his children and family, Sandra Crawford of Bremen, Georgia, Sylvia and Larry Tanner of Alpine, Alabama, Shelby and Wayne Dewell of Villa Rica, Georgia, Sharon and Edmund Merritt of Dallas, Georgia, son Shanon Brown of Whitesburg, Georgia, nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home of Douglasville on Thursday, July 2, 2020 from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM. Graveside services will be conducted Thursday, July 2, 2020 at 10:30 AM from Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Douglasville, Georgia with Rev. Terry Marbut officiating. Interment will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
