Gregory “Heavy” Ray Barnes, 59, died June 29, 2020, in Tideland Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Barnes was born in Georgetown on October 6, 1960, a son of the late Owen Louis Barnes and Catherine Shirley Ray Barnes.

He grew up in Andrews and attended Andrews High School. Mr. Barnes was a very dedicated and hardworking employee with Stone Construction Company as a heavy equipment operator for over twenty years. Greg was very much a people person with a big heart and loved helping everyone. He was an excellent story teller with a great sense of humor, which kept everyone laughing,

Gregg was also a die-hard cowboys fan His love and devotion was to his family especially his brothers and sister. He will surely be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Barnes was predeceased by: three brothers, Jimmy Barnes, Glenn “Boo” Barnes and Michael Barnes.

Surviving are: four brothers, Kevin L Barnes, Steve Barnes, and Jack Barnes (Jeanette) all of Andrews and Stanley Barnes of Maryland; a sister, Janet Barnes Bone of Shelby, NC; a sister-in-law, Josie S. Barnes of Andrews; a seven nieces and nephews, Allen Barnes (Whitney Kellehan) Roger Devin Chestnut, II (Samantha), Josey Ann Chestnut (Jameson Westbrook), Ariel Chestnut (Mark Brandon), Angel Barnes ,Walt Barnes and Marsha Barnes; and five great- nieces and nephews, William, James and Linda Chestnut, Blakely and Michael James Westbrook; and three great-great-nephews, Christopher Barnes, Owen Barnes and Logan Barnes.

Memorial Services will be ten o’clock Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at his home, 1990 Tallowtree Dr., Andrews, SC. Officiating will be the Rev. Ricky Glisson.

The family suggests memorials to: The Crohn’s Foundation of America, 386 Park Avenue South, 17th Floor, New York, NY 10016-7374 or to the charity of ones choice.
