Jacqueline “Jackie” Cook Walker, 89, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2020, surrounded by her family. Jackie was born on May 25, 1931, in Montevallo, Alabama. She was a resident of Pascagoula and Moss Point for the majority of her life. She was married to James Kell “Jimmy” Walker, and together they had four daughters. She was a member of Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church.

Jackie served many roles throughout her life—wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker, and businesswoman. While both beautiful and fashionable, she also exhibited a determined spirit and a strong work ethic. She once co-owned The Mushroom House, an arts and crafts store in downtown Pascagoula that specialized in trendy decoupaged purses. Upon Jimmy’s death at age 42, she assumed the role of President of James K. Walker Marine shipyard until it was sold in 1986. She then continued to work holding various positions at two medical clinics, Regions Bank, and The First Bank until her retirement at age 75. She would most likely consider her greatest achievements to have been successfully running the shipyard, raising her “four girls”, and being a grandmother.

Jackie was preceded in death by her husband James Kell Walker, parents Annie and Bartie Cook, sister Dorothy “Dot” Tansil, brother Bob Cook, and son-in-law Paul Doyle.

Left to cherish her memory are her four daughters, Kaye Walker Doyle, Cynthia Zubic (Ricky), Toni Manning (Ed), Hope Morgan (Christman); her brother Wayne A. Cook; grandchildren P.J. Doyle (Jennifer), Bethany Doyle Vincent (Rob), Dana Doyle Martin, Kell Zubic, Ethan Zubic (Elizabeth), Amanda Manning Markow (Majure), and Walker Manning (Anne Elise); great grandchildren James and Caroline Zubic, Manning and Sudie Markow; many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff at The Plaza Community Living Center and Hospice of Light for the devoted care, patience, comfort, and love shown for their mother, particularly during the last few months.

Due to the concerns of COVID19, social distancing guidelines are in place.

A memorial mass will be celebrated Monday, June 29, 2020 at Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church, P.O. Box 368, Pascagoula, MS 39568 or to the charity of your choice.

Heritage Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mrs. Jacqueline Cook Walker.
