Philosopher, Nobel Prize Laureate Author. One of the foremost thinkers and social activists of the 20th century, he is considered one of the founders of analytic philosophy, and was a staunch advocate of anti-imperialism and of anti-war activities. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1950 "in recognition of his varied and significant writings in which he champions humanitarian ideals and freedom of thought".
