Mr. Black was born on Saturday, March 3, 1934 to the late Tommy and Candie (Moore) Black, Sr. in Shaw, Mississippi. Tom lived in Mansfield with his family before moving to Erick, Oklahoma while living in Erick Tom united with the Bethany Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Tom spent the last 15 years in Tulsa with his children. He was employed with Yellow Freight Line Trucking Company until an injury required him retire on disability. Tom enjoyed singing gospel music.
Tom is survived by his 8 children: Earnestine, and John Black, of Mansfield, Rosetta and Ciara Black, and Kevin (Kena) Black, Sr., of Tulsa, Jimmy Black, Tennessee, Linda Black-Moreno, Tampa, Florida, and Mark Williams, Columbus, 20 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, 3 sisters: Mamie Gamble, of Atlanta, Georgia, Minnie Lee Gamble, of Jacksonville, Florida, Ruby (Justice) Weaver, of Indianapolis, Indiana; 2 brothers: Charles T. Black of Indianapolis, and Jessie Black, of Marion; and special friend: Vernell Griffin, of Tulsa.
In addition to his parents Tom was also preceded in death by 4 siblings, Freddie and Willie Black, Rev. James Black, and Ruth Brown, and his former wife of 30 years Vera (Taylor) Black with whom he remained friends.
Funeral services will be held , Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Ruth Anna Lee Williams Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Services with his nephew Rev. Wayne Black officiating. Friends may call at the chapel Tuesday after 3:00 PM where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Interment will be in Mansfield Cemetery.
