Dr. Wanda Denise Carter Young transitioned from labor to reward on Sunday, June 28, 2020. A native of Waycross, Georgia, she was born April 26th, 1960 and was one of three children born to the late Ulysses and Trudah Singletary Carter. After her mother's untimely passing, Wanda's grandmother, the late Roxie Carter, affectionately known as Mama Roxie, raised her and her siblings. Her sister Sybel Ann Ward preceded her in death.

During her youth, Wanda was an active member of Greater St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, pastored by Reverend Eugene J Menefee. In 1988, she married her loving and devoted husband Marvin Wayne Young, Sr. and joined Family Worship Center, where Pastor Rod Swinson presides.

Wanda had a genuine passion for learning. After graduating from Waycross High School in 1977, she went on to earn her bachelor's, master's and specialist degrees in education from Valdosta State University. Later, she earned her Doctoral in Educational Leadership from Argosy University.

In 1982, Dr. Young became a teacher at Charlton County High School, marking the beginning of her fulfilling her life's dream of becoming a successful educator. A phenomenal leader whose kind spirit impacted countless lives, Wanda continued her career as a business and computer science teacher at Ware County High School for thirty-four years. She retired in 2018.

Left to mourn Wanda's passing are her husband Marvin Wayne Young, Sr.; a son, Marvin Wayne Young, Jr. (MJ); daughters Chelsea Denise Young and Jada Young; and grandson Maison Young, all of Waycross. She leaves to mourn other family members: a loving brother, Reginald Wayne Carter (Frankie) of Jacksonville, FL; aunts Sylvia Coleman, Mary Speed, and Winniefred Cromatic, all of North Carolina; brothers-in-law Eddie Young, Jr. (Stella) of Jacksonville, AR; and Ray Young (Thawanna) of Pooler, GA; sisters-in-law Lynda Young and Charlotte Hamilton, both of Waycross; nieces and nephews including four that she was especially devoted to Reanold Carter, Bryce Carter, Taylor Ward and Casey Hollingshed; a host of cousins and friends.
