RYAN, Helen Pruett, departed this life on June 5, 2019, after having celebrated her 100th birthday on December 12, 2018. She was the daughter of Robert B. and Geneva D. Pruett; and was preceded in death by her husband, Louis James Ryan Jr.; sister, Lillian P. Spicer; and daughter-in-law, Frances Anne Ryan. She is survived by her two sons, Louis James Ryan III and Robert L. Ryan (Raye). She is also survived by four grandchildren, James Ryan IV (AnaLisa) of Moon, Va., Christy R. Gurkin (Gray) of Richmond, Kelly R. Ryan of Richmond and Shannon Gray (Charles) of Davidson, N.C.; and six great-grandchildren. She graduated from John Marshall High School and St Claire's Secretarial School. She was a secretary to a Richmond architect for nine years, President of Henrico County Extension Homemakers Council, Director of the Northeast Counties of Virginia Extension Homemakers Council and was Director on the Board of the Virginia Agribusiness Council. She was a member of Emmanual Episcopal Church at Brook Hill, where she served on the Altar Guild, Richmond Rose Society, the Virginia Needle Woman's Guild, Sleepy Hollow Garden Club and Ikebana. Helen was a wonderful mother, volunteer, a traveler, a sailor and a rosian who made flower arrangements for Westminster Canterbury Richmond, her home. Graveside service will take place on Monday, June 24, 11 a.m. at Forest Lawn. Online guestbook available at Woodyfuneralhomeparham.com.
