Martha Alice “Polly” Coleman, 75 of the Thompson Valley community in Tazewell, VA died Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, VA. Born November 4, 1944 at North Tazewell, VA she was a daughter of the late Earnest and Myrtle Lane Sparks. She was a member of Bandy Freewill Baptist Church. Polly was a registered nurse and earned her degree from SWVCC. She worked for several local hospitals and completed her career working for Pro Careers in Princeton, WV with over 25 years service. Her hobbies included making over 500 prayer quilts which she prayed over and gave away. Another hobby was baking and giving away wedding cakes. She was the most giving person you would ever meet. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, and flea marketing. Everyone’s request was her famous chicken & dumplings and her homemade rolls. Polly was affectionately known as Mawmaw Polly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Elmer Kiser; second husband, Jamie Ray Coleman; brothers, Sam, Troy, Corky, and Ricky Sparks.
She is survived by her brothers, Clyde and Millie Sparks of Newbern, VA, Bob and Donna Sparks of Nickelsville, VA, Roy and Judy Sparks of Doran, VA, and Danny Sparks of Cedar Bluff, VA; sister, Teresa and Rusty Hess of Cedar Bluff, VA; a host of nieces, nephews, sisters in law, numerous close friends, and her church family.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday, July 2, 2020 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, VA where funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Friday, July 3, 2020 with Pastor Ronnie Sparks officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Thompson Valley, VA. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
