Mary was affectionately known by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as “Mama Lou”. She was a graduate of Logan High School Class of ‘1945’ and also attended Barber-Scotia College in Concord, NC. She later relocated to New York to pursue a career in Nursing at Montefiore Hospital. She later moved back to NC and became employed by Cabarrus Memorial Hospital until her retirement and went back to Phillip Morris until her final retirement in 2000.
She joined Holy Grove Church at a very young age. She later joined Liberty Primitive Baptist Church in Concord. She served in various capacities at Liberty over the past twenty-three years including on the Usher Board, President of the Trustee Board, Voices of Liberty Choir, Mother’s Board and Missionary Board. Mary was crowned Queen of the South Western District Women’s Congress.
