Mrs. Nancy Maxwell Powell, age 94, of Chapel Hill, Tennessee, died Saturday, June 27, 2020 in Lewisburg, Tennessee. Mrs. Powell was a native of Williamson County and was a daughter of the late Powell Perkins (died 03-24-1989) and Nannie Mae Orr Maxwell.(died 03-25-1974) In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Andrew Powell, who died in 2002, and her sister, Jane Edge.
Mrs. Nancy was a graduate of Forrest High School and received her bachelor’s degree in Home Economics from George Peabody College in Nashville. After graduation from college, Mrs. Powell returned to Forrest School where she taught home economics, typing and business classes until her retirement in 1984 after 30 years of teaching. For 28 of those years, she was the Forrester Yearbook advisor and for many years, along with Mrs. Jane Kerr, was in charge of Homecoming festivities.
Mrs. Powell was a long time member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and was a very active member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a former member of the Chapel Hill Eastern Star chapter, the Marshall County Retired Teachers Association and the Tennessee Retired Teachers Association. Along with her late husband, Clarence, she was very active members of both the Marshall County Farm Bureau and Tennessee Farm Bureau Associations of which she served on many different women’s committees in those organizations. Mrs. Powell was also a past president of the Marshall Medical Center Volunteers.
Mrs. Powell is survived by her daughter, Nanette (Ira) Todd, Chapel Hill, TN; grandsons, Andrew (Sharon) Todd, Murfreesboro, TN, Brian (Kim) Todd, Chapel Hill, TN, Hunter ( Melissa) Todd, College Grove, TN, Adam (Kelly) Todd, Franklin, TN; great grandchildren, Myah, Mitchell, Payton, Grant, Remi, Sadie, Hadley, Owen, Sawyer, Lexi and Hannah; step-great grandchildren, Jacob and Kate.
Family members will receive friends on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 from 10:00 am until 1:00 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. David Johnson and Rev. Jimmy Hendrix officiating. Burial will follow in Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill.
Andy Todd, Brian Todd, Hunter Todd, Adam Todd, Bob Mitchell and Jimmy Rickman will serve as pallbearers.
