His death certificate indicates that his father was Alfred A. Strauss & mother was Amelia Weinberg Strauss. A Sumter attorney, he first married Hattie Gertie Ryttenberg, a class of 1895 graduate of Sumter High School. She died in 1949. His second wife was Miss Grace Hansen of Minneapolis, Minn. who had been the wife of his brother Lucian I. Strauss (Lucian died Sept. 1950). He ended up with colon cancer & died at Tuomey Hospital in Sumter and was cremated almost a week later at Duke (see death cert.).
