Mr. L. Sheridan Barber, 76, vice
president and secretary of the
Woodsboro Savings Bank, died
Monday, Jan. 3, at his residence
at 60 Main St.,Walkersville.
Mr. Barber, who was also a member
of the bank's board of directors,
was well-known for his civic leadership.

Born June 23, 1917, in Beckley,
W.Va., he was a son of Lewis
Sheridan and Neva Cutshall Barber.
He was the husband of Verna Davis
Barber.

Mr. Barber was a member of the
Democratic Party and ran for the
House of Delegates in 1978. He was
also a member of the Catoctin Club,
Walkersville Volunteer Fire Co., and
Glade Valley Athletic Association.
He served as a past director of the
Frederick County Tuberculosis and
Public Health Association, and was a
past master counselor of the Frederick
DeMolay. He was a past
president of both the Walkersville
PTA and and Frederick Hi-Y.

He enjoyed traveling and was an
avid fisherman. •

Mr. Barber was a veteran, having
served in the U.S. Army Air Corps
during World War II. His service
with the 12th Air Cargo Resupply
Squadron for three years included
duty in China, Burma and India. He
was a member of Glenn W. Eyler
Post 282, Woodsboro American
Legion, and John R. Webb, Post 3285,
VFW, Frederick.

Mr. Barber was a graduate of
Frederick High School and Strayer
Business College, Baltimore. After
graduating from college, he was
employed by The Frederick News-
Post for 13 years. Later, he was
employed by British Petroleum as a
regional manager and administrator
for 23 years, retiring in 1976.
Surviving, in addition to his wife,
are one son, Robert Sheridan Barber
and his wife Sandra of Phoenix, Md.;
one daughter, Ruth Neva Barber of
Walkersville; one brother, John
Lough Barber of Mountaindale; and
one grandson, Blair Sheridan Barber
of Phoenix.
