Evelyn Stainback McKinney, 67, of Flat Rock, died Thursday, July 5, at Mission Hospital from injuries sustained in an accident. A native of Caswell County, she was a daughter of the late Enor Aldridge Stainback and Charlie B. Stainback. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Charles “Pete” Stainback. She had lived in Burlington prior to moving to Henderson County 43 years ago. She was a teacher’s assistant for kindergarten classes at Hillandale and Upward Elemetary Schools for 22 years and developed a close relationship with her colleagues over the years. She loved her church and her community and was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church East Flat Rock. A talented seamstress, she had an eye for fashion and accessories.

Mrs. McKinney is survived by her husband of 45 years, H. Gordon McKinney; her daughter Kim McKinney Harrison and her husband John of Hendersonville; her son, Keith McKinney and his wife Renee of King, NC; her grandson, Aiden McKinney and her sister, Joyce Rudd and her husband Harold of Burlington, NC.

A celebration of her life will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, July 8, at First Baptist Church East Flat Rock. Rev. Keith McKinney, Rev. Jimmy Tarrant and Rev. Harold McKinnish will officiate.
