GRAFTON — Michael Jack “Doc” Meador, DDS, 67, of Grafton, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2020, at his home with his loving wife by his side.
He was born October 31, 1952, in Hinton, West Virginia, the son of the late Jack and Berma Ellison Meador.
Michael is survived by his wife, Elaine Rose Palmer Meador, whom he married August 2, 2008. They shared many great years together at their beloved beach home in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
Michael graduated from Hinton High School, Class of 1970. He obtained his undergraduate from WVU in 1973 and his doctorate from WVU School of Dentistry in 1977. He held dental licenses in West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Florida, along with many other accomplishments and qualifications over the years. He and Mike Trent, DDS, had a general practice in Fairmont starting in 1978 and served the community proudly for thirty years. In August 2007, he became the clinical assistant professor of the Department of Restorative Dentistry at West Virginia University. In 2014, he became associate professor and in 2015 he became the associate dean of clinical education and patient care. He was a Health Right provider.
Michael was a fellow of the American College of Dentists and a fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, both honorary organizations that are highly respected. Starting in 1987, he served nineteen years as a baseball coach for Little League (ages 9-12) through American Legion (age 16-19), where he won several city and state championships, and was past board member for Marion County Parks and Recreation. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and a very proud Mountaineer fan. Among all of Michael’s wonderful accomplishments, being a loving husband, father and grandfather is where he truly excelled. Michael had a special place in his heart for hunting, fishing and storytelling; he especially enjoyed sharing these moments with his grandson, Carson. A special note for Carson, every good story ends with your hat on backwards, love Papaw. Michael fought a great and courageous battle for over three months as we would have expected him to do and faced his illness with the dignity that we have all known him for.
His loss is incomprehensible to those of us who loved him and he leaves behind: his loving wife, Rose; four children, Michael Meador and wife, Jennifer, Justin Meador and wife, Tiffany, Nathan Meador and wife, Rachel and Rusty Conner and wife, Lauren; nine grandchildren, Mason C, Addisyn, Penelope, Abby, Delaney, Blake, Jamison, Carson and Mason A; five siblings, Larry Meador, David Meador and Tammi, Donna Ellison and Jeff, Janet Whitten and James Meador and mother in-law, Brenda Floyd Palmer Leighty.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Michael’s first wife, Pamela Saab Meador; granddaughter, Lillian Faith Meador; father in-law, James H. Palmer; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Meador and Jeannie Meador; maternal grandparents, Denzil and Ruth Schwiendemann Ellison and paternal grandparents, Jack and Mabel Neely Meador.
Bartlett Funeral Home and Crematory is handling the cremation for the Meador family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to City of Hope Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Center, 1500 East Duarte Rd., Duarte, CA; Gift to Liver Cancer “In Honor of Mike Meador” or https://ourhope.cityofhope.org/give/286522/#!/donation/checkout; or Butterfly Angels: The McKinley Anne Foundation, PO Box 906, Waynesburg, PA 15370 “In Memory of Lillian Faith Meador from Nana and Pawpaw Meador”.
