Nancy Jane Cox Hale, age 77, a longtime resident of Ozona, Texas, went to meet her Lord on June 24, 2020, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 27, at 10:00 A.M. at Ozona’s Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Nancy was born in Ballinger on July 16, 1942, to Henry and Josephine Barto Cox. The oldest of five siblings, she grew up in Barnhart.

At the age of 14 she met the love of her life, Eddie Hale, and knew that was the man she would marry. After fulfilling a promise to her mother to attend San Angelo College, the two were married in 1960 and began a lifestyle that she loved on the Rocker B Ranch north of Barnhart. Throughout their 54 years together, they raised two sons, Ed Jr. and Les, as they enjoyed working on various ranches in Crockett County. The two eventually developed the RH Ranch partnership with Nat and Jean Read.

Nancy enjoyed many hobbies including quilting, gardening, and cooking, but she had a passion for selflessly serving others. She was involved in the community, serving on many boards, and was instrumental in bringing about the building of the Senior Center and JCT Wellness Center, as well as serving as president of the library board. She retired after 37 years of service to Crockett County as secretary at the Agri-life Extension Service and Deputy Treasurer.

Nancy was a “Nanny” to all and considered “little people and babies” among her favorite things. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she volunteered in the nursery and led the toddler class in the KIDS program. She greatly enjoyed caring for and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and especially her great-grandchildren. In her later years, she developed a love for travel and enjoyed taking trips with her husband, children, grandchildren, and cousins.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie, parents Henry and Josephine Cox, and siblings, Jimmy, Paul, and Sandra.

She is survived by her sons Ed Jr. (Laurie) Hale, and Les (Katrece) Hale, all of Ozona; grandchildren Trey (Breanne) Hale of Ozona, Clay (Kari) Hale of Christoval, Clint (Heather) Hale of Athens, Natalie (Reggie) Baker of Lancaster, Lane (Kortni) Hale of Brice, and Brenna Hale of Ozona; sister Myrtle (Norman) Clamon of Boyd, and sister-in-law Vikki Cox of Early; seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She felt especially blessed to have made so many good friends across the community through the years.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of San Angelo for their care and support during her illness.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Friends of the JCT Wellness Center (Box 865) or Friends of the Crockett County Library (Box 3030) in Ozona.
