Pioneer Merchant of Ogden Dead

Lamoni Grix pioneer, merchant of Ogden died at his home, 2549 Gramercy avenue, Tuesday at nine p.m. of causes incident to age.

Mr. Grix was born in Norwich, England, Oct 7, 1855, a son of Jonathan and Sarah Florence Grix. He came to Ogden as an L.D.S. convert, Oct 16, 1869, on the first railroad train bearing L.D.S. immigrants straight from New York City, and had resided here since.

He married Sarah Lawson in the Salt Lake Endowment house, Feb. 1, 1878. She died in Ogden, Feb. 6, 1899.

Mr. Grix worked as a clerk in Joseph Stanford's merchandise store on Twenty-fifth street, just west of the Broom Hotel, for six years, later going into business for himself. He was the first merchant to move into the new Broom hotel building in 1883. He continued in business for 40 years, retiring in 1907.

A devout member of the L.D.S. church, Mr. Grix was in the high priest quorum of Mount Ogden stake.

Survivors include seven sons and daughters, S. J., John, Arthur, Florence, Mary B., and Winifred Grix; and Mrs. May Bybee, all of Ogden. The body is at Larkin & Sons mortuary.
