Willis Stone passed away on April 3, 1946 at the Luther Hospital in Watertown, SD at the age of 74 years. Son of Thomas and Pearl Stone, he was born June 10, 1871 in Menard County, IL. United in marriage to Liddie Emily Barnhart on January 30, 1895. They made their home in Champaign County, IL. Later, the family moved to North Dakota, Missouri, Iowa and Minnesota. After Liddie passed away in 1917, Willis moved the family to South Dakota and settled on a farm near Bemis. The last few years of his life, "Pop" Stone, as he was familiarly known, lived in Clear Lake. He was a great baseball fan and seldom missed a game if there was any chance of being there.
He is survived by 6 sons and 2 daughters: Thomas and Chance of Clear Lake, SD; Everett of Huron, SD; Fred of Yuba City, CA; Louie of Chicago, IL; Frank of Los Angeles, CA; Grace, and Mrs. Lelia Kretchmar of Watertown, SD. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 2 great-granddaughters and one sister, Clara Doty of Tolono, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
All of his children with the exception of Grace and Fred were able to attend the funeral.
