Peggy was born on January 10, 1936, the first of nine children born to the late Fred Baunce and Nancy Faye Starritt Trexler, of Emmet, Arkansas. She graduated from Emmet High School and received advanced training in data processing in Houston, Texas. She returned to Arkansas and was employed in UAMS Computer Services for 39 years before retirement. She married noted Arkansas sportswriter James "Jim" Clayton Bailey, on July 1, 1960.
Peggy's life was characterized by her true servant's heart, unconditional love for her family and friends and, abiding faith in God. She had a special love for Arkansas Hospice and was an Arkansas Hospice Volunteer of the Year in 2003. Peggy was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church of Little Rock. She was active in the church and especially enjoyed being a children's Sunday School teacher. She was loved and regarded as a grandmother figure to children of friends in her church and neighborhood.
Peggy cherished her role as a wife and mother. She was an excellent cook; her home-cooked meals were a treat to frequent visitors. She was a very integral part of her large family, and she was always ready to assist with a need wherever she saw it. As sports were central to her life through her husband's career, she and their son often traveled to sporting events and baseball spring training which Jim covered for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Jim, in 2019; sister, Patsy Trexler Hauser; and sister-in-law, Carrie Ann Holiman Trexler.
Peggy is survived by her beloved son, Bobby Bailey and his wife, Rebekah; step-granddaughter, Ariel Mathis; step-grandson, Micheal Harris; siblings: Dr. Anna Trexler, of Magnolia, Donald Trexler and his wife, Alice, of Emmet, Charles Trexler, of Magnolia, Nancy Trexler Hartness, of Mineral Springs, Sandra Trexler McMurtrey and her husband, Richard, of Bentonville, Marilyn Trexler Koehler and her husband, Bob, of Sherwood, and Dwight Trexler and his wife, Sheila, of Texarkana; and many other relatives and friends.
