A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 26, 2020, at 10:00 AM, at General Douglas L. McBride Veterans Cemetery in Roswell, NM.
On February 25, 1945, Johnny was born to Jack and Jonnie Ray in Roswell, New Mexico. Upon graduating from Donelson High School, he joined the U.S. Navy. Johnny served for six years and did two tours in Vietnam and was awarded with a Purple Heart. He took pride in serving his country.
Johnny was the beloved husband of Helen Ray, whom he married on May 28, 2004, in Dexter, New Mexico. Johnny worked as a manager for Town Plaza Apartments for twenty years, then he retired. He enjoyed cooking and listening to music with his wife and dogs. Johnny will be greatly missed, and the memories he shared with his family and friends will forever remain in their hearts.
Johnny is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Jonnie Ray; and father-in-law, Burnie Nicholson, Sr.; and brother-in-law, Jesse Nicholson Sr.
Those left to cherish memories of Johnny are his loving wife, Helen Ray; children: Cissy Ray and husband David Chavez, Tosha Ray and husband Troy Jones, Michelle Acosta, Jonathon Acosta, Alonzo Acosta Jr. and wife Wendy Taylor, Albert Grajeda and wife Amanda, Yvonne Acosta; seventeen grandchildren; one great-grandchild; mother-in-law, Julie Nicholson; brother-in-law, Albert Nicholson and Jennifer; brother-in-law, Burnie Nicholson Jr.; nieces and nephews: Burnie Nicholson III, Brittny Nicholson, Jesse Nicholson, Jr., Sara Nicholson, David Nicholson, Jarrett Nicholson; as well as six precious dogs.
Johnny adored his grandchildren and dogs.
Chosen as honorary pallbearers are Joshua Acosta and wife Katie, Alonzo Acosta III, Allen Acosta, Jose Grajeda, Anthony Grajeda, Abbigail Grajeda, Drew Grajeda, Hunter Turpin, Kristopher Lee, Kaylah Lee, Natalea “Sue” Banuelas, Jaedrian “Jae Bo” Garcia, Sahniyah “Curly Girl” Garcia, Arianna “Scooter” Acosta, Erik Mendiola, and Avani Taylor.
