On June 11, 1983 she was united in marriage to Edward D. Hopkins in Ashland. She worked at WITC in Ashland as a Student Success Teaching Assistant and retired in 2016 after a 34 years career. Her passion was helping students get ahead in life through their education. She was a member of the Bell Choir, the Accidentals Choir and a volunteer at the Brick in Ashland. She enjoyed gardening, kayaking, traveling, hiking and being outdoors in nature.
Survivors include her mother, Carol of Lawrence, KS; husband, Ed; daughters, Katie (Eric) Swanson and Kelsey Hopkins all of Ashland; grandchildren, Ethan, Emmett and Ella Swanson; sisters, Nancy Schwarting of Lawrence, KS, Laura Nabozny of Ashland and Julie (Paul Schmidt) Schwarting of Lawrence, KS as well as nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her Father and special aunt, Dorothy Cobb.
A Memorial Service for Susan will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at the United Presbyterian Congregational Church in Ashland with Reverend James Deters officiating.
A gathering of family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Church in Ashland and continue until the hour of service.
Spring interment will take place in Mount Hope Cemetery, Ashland.
